Guidelines for the Teaching Physician Program

This course is designed to assist physicians who have a working relationship with residents, fellows, and medical students to adhere to the requirements associated with proper documentation and expectations.

Target Audience

This course is intended for any teaching physician, resident, fellow, or medical student as well as any operations leader responsible for services in a teaching physician program.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  1. Recognize and adhere to teaching physician documentation guidelines and expectations
  2. Distinguish between the specific requirements related to primary care exception, moonlighting residents, surgical procedures, anesthesia services, and diagnostic testing
  3. Identify the modifiers that are required to certify compliance with the teaching physician requirements
