Speaker:
Oyinkansola Okubanjo, MD
Medical Director DE&I
Advocate Health
Midwest Medical Group

Overview:
The term intergenerational transmission refers to instances where the traumatic effects are passed down from the directly traumatized generation to their future offspring. There have been many examples of this historically, but this can also contribute to health care disparities. In order to address this, we must utilize a trauma informed lens when providing care for our patients.

Objectives: Upon completion of the activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Define transgenerational trauma,
  • Navigate how transgenerational trauma can present clinically and how it contributes to health care disparities.
  • Identify resources and ways to address transgenerational trauma.

Target Audience: This activity is designed for physicians and other healthcare professionals.
