Description: In this presentation, we will review antibiotic classes, mechanism of action and spectrum of activity along with antibiotic prophylaxis regimens for different surgical procedures according to current guidelines. We will also discuss the different options of surgical antibiotic prophylaxis for patients with beta – lactam allergies according to the current guidelines and compare them with Advocate Health Midwest (MW) Region guidelines for certain surgical procedures. Additionally, there will be discussion of the appropriate timing of different types of antibiotic prophylaxis.
