Teaching Primary Palliative Care Stage A

Thank you for enrolling in the performance improvement project Teaching Primary Palliative Care. This online module has 3 stages, and you need to complete all three stages in order to claim credit. It will take you 2-6 months to fully complete this program.

In Stage A of this project, you will assess your current practice and set goals for improving your ability to provide palliative care.

Learning Objectives

  1. Enhance basic communication skills for end-of-life care, particularly delivering bad news.
  2. Develop strategies for working with patients who present challenging personality or cultural differences.
  3. Understand resources within the system that can assist the patient in making choices.
  4. Incorporate accepted standards of palliative care and evidence based decision-making into discussions and the practice of caring for dying patients and their families.
  5. Utilize specific resources available to assist with care of terminally ill patients.

For completing Stage A, you will be eligible for up to  5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. If you complete all 3 stages, this course is designed to provide both the 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

"Active participation" means the practitioner must:

  • Provide direct or consultative care to patients as part of the project.
  • Implement the project’s interventions (the changes designed to improve care) and reflect on the tools you selected to see if they are the correct tools to make a change.
  • Collect, submit, and review data in keeping with the project’s measurement plan with two linked cycles of data review.
  • Collaborate by actively participating in the live session and subsequent shadowing.

Upon successful completion and attestation, the CPD Office will review your completed project to verify that you have actively participated and successfully completed the project.
