APH Workshop: The Intersection Between Trauma and Secondary Traumatic Stress
Have you ever asked yourself, “Why do I keep doing this work when it is so personally and professionally challenging and painful, and sometimes seems never ending?” This presentation will identify the human costs and benefits to being chronically exposed to traumatized children and families. The combination of research, stories and self-reflection will provide a framework from which to empower participants to address the elephant in their organization and within themselves.
Target Audience
The program is aimed at psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and other allied health professionals who deal with mental health issues and addiction medicine.

- Describe how STS affects their personal and professional lives
- Identify specific strategies to respond to STS and organizational stress
