APH Workshop: Professional Ethics and Boundaries: 2018 Update
This presentation will critically examine current challenges in professional ethics and boundaries, examining areas of challenge, and provide concrete tools for decision-making which can bring about good clinical outcomes while avoiding pitfalls. Through case examples as well as ethical challenges provided by attendees, a variety of ray areas and dilemmas will be utilized to formulate ways to avoid trouble while producing good outcomes. Written materials will provide additional resources.
Target Audience
The program is aimed at psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and other allied health professionals who deal with mental health issues and addiction medicine.
Learning Objectives
- Explain an ethical decision-making model and apply it to clinical situations
- Discuss standards regarding interactions with former clients
- Identify issues in terminating care and issues with client abandonment
- Explore policy options regarding doing internet searches on clients
- Weigh pros and cons of the use of blogs for support
- Discuss issues in using an app to assist with treatment
- Discuss issues regarding remote services by phone, skype, or other means
