APH Workshop: Suicide Risk Assessment
This workshop presentation will delve into current findings on suicide awareness, assessment and intensity of risk. Risk assessment tools and methods will be presented along with rationale and the “how-to” tips for utilizing these tools. Presenter will highlight the importance of suicide risk assessment in the clinical setting and provide materials to be used in assessing risk and implementing safety plans.
Target Audience
The program is aimed at psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and other allied health professionals who deal with mental health issues and addiction medicine.
Learning Objectives
- Describe recent literature on existing and emerging screening tools for suicide risk assessment
- Explain how to use suicide risk assessment tools in a clinical setting and list barriers that may impact the use of these tools
- List risk factors for suicidality across life span and diagnostic groups
- Describe how to implement an effective safety plan for at-risk patients
