Clinical Issues in Marriage and Family Therapy Series: The Challenge of Treating Couples with Substance Use Disorder

October 4, 2024

Research has shown that substance use impacts everyone in the family. Despite this, clinicians are often intimidated by the impact addiction has on the couple/family due to the substance user's denial and minimization of their use. This presentation will examine the limitations of past efforts to assist families in their response to substance use disorders, while also highlighting incredible power of the family to help substance users enter treatment. The clinician working with these families can learn how to effectively direct the substance user to enter treatment. This session will explore how to implement a treatment intervention known as Community Reinforcement Approach, Family Training to get the resistive substance user to enter recovery.

This conference is being held virtually.
