Ethics: Let's Make One Thing Perfectly Queer: Responding Clinically, Ethically, and Socially to the Trans Community
This workshop provides advanced theories of gender identity and takes practitioners through the pragmatics fo the mental health profession's interface with transgender communities. This workshop examines ethicality of the developing "informed consent" model and how this is changing the "gatekeeper" practitioners have long held and examines overall considerations when working with transgender clients.
Target Audience
The program is aimed at psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and other allied health professionals who deal with mental health issues and addiction medicine.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this session, learners should be able to:
- Identify pesonally held values, beleives and attitudes concerning gender
- Improve care of Transgender patients in a clinical setting
- Explain "queer theory" constructs of gender identity
