Labor Support: We're Better Together!

This educational offering is created for those who provide in hospital labor support, Obstetricians, Nurses and Community Doulas.  Education is on incorporating knowledge of the pelvic floor soft tissue function in labor and how to relax the pelvic floor in order to promote labor progress. Concepts on how to prevent post-delivery pelvic floor dysfunction will be addressed.  Community doulas and in hospital labor caregivers will explore best practice guidelines for labor with focus on the second stage.  Collaboration of interdisciplinary roles to provide respectful patient centered care, patient birth trauma, and provider secondary trauma will be discussed.

This conference is being held virtually and in-person.

Target Audience

This activity is for physicians, nurses, and community doulas that provide labor support.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  • Learners will incorporate pelvic floor knowledge into labor support to relax the pelvic floor and prevent postpartum complications ​
  • Learners will describe second stage best practice labor support, techniques to improve collaboration of doula’s and hospital providers, and describe techniques to address birth and secondary trauma.
